We get questions all the time on our wood countertops! It’s a hot topic anytime I post an image of them! So I thought I would quickly do a rundown on what we did and how we like it!
Wood Choices & Sealer
First things first if you are considering wood countertops you must choose the proper wood! If you are looking for durability a hardwood is a must but keep in mind no matter how hard the wood is nothing is going to be as durable as your stone type countertops.
We didn’t choose a hardwood we actually went with pine. Pine is a soft wood and shows nicks, dings, dents, and all that jazz. The reason we went this route is we love the graining in pine and we were after a very rustic look. We like the character and the more we use the better we like it. That might not be for everyone! We have had our installed for a little over a year and they still look amazing!
We use a water-based polycrylic. We put about 3-5 coats on to fully protect the wood. Do your research and choose the best sealer for your area.
Keep in mind that we may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases. However, this does not impact our reviews and comparisons. We try our best to keep things fair and balanced, in order to help you make the best choice for you.
I highly suggest pine countertops to anyone who is on a budget and also is going for a farmhouse or rustic look! I love the look of the dark wood contrast against our white cabinets. It’s rustic but clean at the same time! What do you think?!
